(More customer reviews)I was looking for a folding shelf to create a "hide-away" workplace at home. I found this board serving my purpose perfectly because of this size (36" x 20") as most of the folding shelves I found on the market are pretty narrow or short.
This shelf normally holds my two laptops (15" and 11") side by side and several books (scattered). When I push my bigger laptop against the wall, my elbows can land completely inside the outer edge, making it a spacious workplace. Better yet, when I don't need it, I fold it against the wall and save all the precious space I need.
The board is relatively easily to install, that is, if you have no trouble finding the studs and are equipped with all the tools. Mine took awhile to finish because two of the Size10 2.5" nails that came with the package broke in the middle of drilling. This created quite a hassle because I'll had to find another 4 new holes and pray no nail will break. So now I have my shelf installed with 8 other holes on my wall. For the wall stud brackets, there are 6 long nails that come with the package (including 2 extra). After two of them broke, I just went to Home Depot and got some Size10 2.5" nails that are in similar shape. I didn't want to trust the other 4 nails. Since I couldn't find oval-head nails anywhere, I just used flat-head nails and they seem to be working just fine. The 6 smaller nails that are used to connect the brackets and the board are fine. I suggest anybody who wants to use this board get some substitute long nails first before you start the installation.
Although it says that the board will hold up to 150 lbs, I will not try that. I think for normal household use, it's probably unlikely that you'll often need to put more than 20-30 lbs on it, which should be no problem at all. However, when I put the whole weight of my arms on the board when working on it, I could still feel it pressing down a little and making a squeaky noise, even though the brackets are tightly installed against the wall.
Overall, I'm still very happy with this board. As long as you're aware of the potential installation issues and be prepared, you can make good use of this board. I also checked out the manufacturer's website, it looks like they have pretty comprehensive information on the replacement parts as well, if needed.
